Book Club Guide: Wild Reverence

How to Host the Perfect Themed Book Club

At the very top of our Fall TBR was Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross. We loved her Letters of Enchantment duology and were chomping at the bit to get back into that universe. Rebecca Ross’s writing is so beautiful and captivating, it has inspired two of our best book clubs. Divine Rivals and now Wild Reverence.

We've said it before, and honestly will continue to shout it from the mountain tops until our voices are shot: Book Club is the best night of the entire month and we have really outdone ourselves with Wild Reverence. We hope this guide along with our Wild Reverence vlog How to Host the Perfect Book Club will help you knock your next Book Club out of the park.

As always, the stories we read, the thematic food that is brought, the decor, and discussion questions all set the scene for an immersive book club, but the very best part is the people sitting at your table 🤍

Themed Book Club Food and Decor

  • Candles: If you’ve read any of our other Book Club Guides, you know we aren’t able to set a table without candles.

  • Artificial Moss and Flowers: If you’ve seen the book’s cover, you know it’s covered in gorgeous flowers and very earthy. Like candles, we’re bringing florals to every Book Club.

  • Paper Scrolls: These bring in another element of the book as our main characters Matilda and Vincent are writing letters on scrolls throughout the story.

  • Linen Cloth Napkins: We chose these to softly compliment everything else on the table.

  • Planetarium Projector: If you’ve read Wild Reverence, you know the constellations are so important to the story. Turning this on during discussions set the perfect mood.

  • Discussion Question Parchment Paper: Go all out. Instead of keeping your discussion questions trapped in your notes app, print them on thematic paper and place them around the table.

  • Wild Reverence Food: We do a pot luck style book club most months, where people bring food specifically inspired by the book we’re reading. Our Wild Reverence menu consisted of apple cider donuts, lemon pie, pumpkin bread, salmon and soup; inspired by fall reading, nature and whimsy.

Our storefront has everything you need to host a war-time era book club. See our vlog for a closer look and what everyone thought of the story.

Wild Reverence Discussion Questions & Topics

You don’t have to have Book Club discussion questions prepped ahead of time, but we highly suggest doing so; it aids in the flow of discussion and also adds another decor element. Feel free to utilize ours below or a printable version here.

  1. The story is full of sacrifice. Which ones felt necessary, and which broke your heart?

  2. The salt vows and binding promises carry so much weight. How did they shape the characters’ choices?

  3. Switching between Matlida and Vincent gives us two very different views. Whose perspective did you connect with more, and why?

  4. From the wasteland to resurrection, the book asks us to think about mortality. How does it handle memory, grief, and what’s left behind?

  5. Ross built a layered divine world with rituals, lore, and power. Which detail stood out to you most?

  6. Love often feels rebellious in this story. How does Matilda and Vincent use love to push back against despair and conflict?

  7. The novel doesn’t shy away from war and its aftermath. What impact did you see it having on both gods and mortals?

  8. The gods are complex, not purely good or evil. Which god’s choices surprised you most, and how did that change your view of divinity in the book?

  9. How did the conclusion land for you? What feelings or images lingered most after you finished?
